It is an affair and it IS a drama in the genre of horror played in the key of C with an F sharp asscendant. In other words I've failed the challenge.

Trapped

An entirely fictional account about some entirely fictional characters ... not about any members of the site at all ... For Jen_Christabel's Prose Workshop Challenge

Religious division, social tension, civil war, betrayal, a state trial and execution of a ‘war criminal’, and the ultimate human sacrifice. All of these take place during the English Civil Wars in seventeenth century England. Paul is escaping following the execution of the Earl of Derby. He hides a secret about the earl’s death and feels responsible. In flashback, Paul explores the reasons for the execution. Is he fully to blame for the death or do other people have deeper motives? Running parallel to this there is Paul's own immediate problem of avoiding capture by his enemies, intent on persecuting him for his loyalty. In a world of betrayal who can he trust as he carries the Earl of Derby's final letter to his widow?

This is highly offensive and unsuitable for anyone under the age of 45. It's also my response to Jen Christabel 's challenge in the Prose Workshop forum.

Sorry about delay with this second part of the common sense party report dealing with changes over the last decade or so. The delay was caused by circumstances beyond my control. Editor. Second section of Waking Up in the Wrong Bed, a piece which I've decided to extend & which may turn into a novel. The basic idea is that Charles wakes up and finds himself in a new life which he knows nothing about.

This is a bit delayed due to procrastination. I've included the synopsis to give readers an idea where it's MEANT to being going. I still haven't decided on humur or straight yet so I'm going where my keyboard leads.

This was a combination of an old idea and inspiration from Jen's Jan prose challenge. The challenge was 'An affair at work' under the category of Drama, not romance.

Each of the eighteen beads represented five years of her life, and though she was only eighty-four, she had studied the last bead well enough to know the details of how the end of her life might be.

I'm pitching in here with chapter two. I posted the first chapter on 3/12 before I'd decided to join in the waniay thing. The story so far, for those who missed ch 1: Tom Westwood is looking to return to the area where he grew up. 19 year-old Melanie has come looking for him because she has been told he might be able to help her find Alan Ridley, her father whom she clearly despises. Alan's sister Susan, whom Melanie knew nothing about, had been Tom's girlfriend but he knows nothing of what became of any of the family since he and Susan split up.

A bit scary for children, really. More of a grown-up story. Mind you, most of those old fairy-tales are terrifying, aren't they?
