Novel Excerpts

Synopsis so far (as its been a while since the last excerpt). Jamie moved into London following a traumatic divorce and has been living quietly, trying to put his life back together. He met Louise Turgut following the funeral of a work colleague. Louise came to England as a refugee from Turkey, with her English mother Beth, after something, she doesn't know what, happened to her father. Jamie and Louise became friends. Through Louise, he encountered Roya Reshteh, an Iranian woman who was stranded in London aged 19, at the time of the Iranian revolution and the death of her mother in the riots. Now, moving forwards in time, and Roya has been in England for many years. Jamie gets to know Howard, Louise's boyfriend and meets up with his old friend, Allen. The three of them go to a jazz club.

Ok, this is my first submission so be gentle with me! This is the opening of a short novella about the fun and games that unfold at a wedding. It's meant to be a bit of a black comedy. I have written more (although it is unfinished at present) but those parts need more work. Any thoughts folks?

Fiction: The Other End of the Rainbow - by sirat (3697 words) - Date online (01-01-2007)

Drama

This one was subbed before all Hell broke loose on the site, and several people had very kindly posted comments, and someone even nominated it for the Anthology. Many thanks to everyone who took an interest. I'm not certain if this version from by back-up file contains all the alterations I had made in response to people's comments, so if there is anything that you spot that's amiss please tell me. It's intended as the title story for a new Rainbow Man collection, to be published by bluechrome some time in the New Year, barring accidents. All comments & suggestions gratefully received.

Re-sub of a resub! I like this personally, but since it has only generated one comment previously, I don't know where I am going wrong with it - and I must be going wrong somewhere! So I thought I'd be cheeky and repost it again - this time in the hope of more critique. Come on you lot - do your worst, I can take it! Romany.

This is Chapter 12 of my first novel, (work in progress), George and the Rabbit. I won't bother you with the synopsis for now, I think this chapter stands by itself. I have submitted the first two chapters to the opening pages competition, and as a result of the comments gratefully received I am still developing the characters, and also my own voice. That said, I appreciate all comments, good or bad; I appreciate your time in reading my, still immature, scribblings. I hope to post further chapters as I write them.

Fiction: Violence Fest - by TheGeeza (832 words) - Date online (01-12-2006)
Flash Fiction

Violence is so common these days that is passes almost without notice. In Iraq, people are blown to smithereens regularly, and it barely makes a mention on the TV news or in the newspapers. Frankly, it's almost unbelievable and when you do get to see it, it doesn't seem like stories and pictures from the real world. When you think about the causes, there are deep-seated issues, but I can't help thinking that a little respect and understanding would solve so many problems - something that seems so near but yet unachievable. I've tried to express my thoughts in this experimental piece. 845 words.
