Fiction: begining of novel without a name - by AimeeLou *NEW AUTHOR* Welcome this new UKA author (220 words) - Date online (17-09-2004)
Drama

This is the beginning of my novel which I'm basically going with the flow with.

I wanted a beginning that would capture the audiences attention and draw them in.Something different too from other novels.I'd just like to know if you think it is intriguing and if you think it needs something else and if so what?

This is my first time attempting to write a novel so I know I have a lot to learn and improve on.That's why I'd like to get people's feedback.

So here is my short three paragraphs on what I have written so far. Please be as honest as possible.

Thanks!

TOXIC BEER AND UFO’S By Richard Random Synopsis Suit Smart, ace detective, womaniser and fully paid up member of the Real Ale Society, accidentily overhears a conversation between what he thought was his best mate Dave, the landlord, who is in fact nothing more than a replicant replacement that looks like Dave, and a bunch of alcholic aliens who have disguised themselves rather cunningly as brewery inspectors . Using a previously thought to be uninhabited and totally devoid of lifeform nearby planet as their homebase, they plot the downfall of planet earth by planning to nick all of the planet’s supplies of real ale. When Suit discovers that they also plan to bump of top Real Ale experts, nick all of the top secret Real Ale recipes and even worse, convince an unscrutable brewery who’s only interest is to make a fast buck, into buying a receipe for an undrinkable watered down beer that looks like ale tastes similar to lager but is in fact nothing more than a by- product of an alien UFO’s propulsion system. Suit decides against his better judgement (and the fact that he’s a coward) to stow away on the aliens’ shuttle to try and stop this awful unthinkable plan before it’s too late.

This is the first chapter of a Novella (think that's the right one) that I am currently working on. I would really appreciate some feedback if anyone wouldn't mind because this is my first attempt at writing something that doesnt fit the catergory of poetry. So far, I've just reached the end of chapter four, so this part is a taster of the storyline and I would like to know if anyone thinks if it's any good or not. I'm open to any constructive critism that any of you have to offer, so feel free to comment away. Really appreciate it. Lv Fluff.

Travel Writing

This is one story from a collection of travel related stories I'm compiling. Some are true, some embellished, and some fictional. Some are from near 20 years of too much business travel, or our holidays, others are relayed from friends and acquaintances, yet others are just plain made up! This one is relayed from a colleague after a few too many “pops”. I’ve omitted names and changed a few details – including the location of the tattoo – to protect the guilty and, as I was not there, I’ve classified it as fiction.

The working title for the collection is "Trips".

Enjoy.
