Fiction: Behind Closed doors. - by warriorprincess (1262 words) - Date online (04-06-2004)
Crime/Thriller

First let me appologies for picking Mystery/ Detective, I really didn't know what genre it came under.

This is a story I have been working on for a while now, I hope it is an improvement on my last prose posting. (it certainly is a little longer and stronger worded)

There are several pages more, and if after you have read it thus far, you would like to read more I will post a few more pages. Please be honest I am in the process of learning how to write prose and would take on board any advice which helps me inprove.

Thanks Julie

Fiction: The Splitting of the Worlds - by MiddleEarthNet (1404 words) - Date online (31-05-2004)
Sci-fi

The Splitting of the Worlds charts the history behind my science fantasy book. It will cover historic references that appear in the book and explain some extra information about the characters. But this section here, is how it all began. I've gone right back in time to when the planets were created and it describes the early life of the planets until the Wizards began to divide into the many races.

My second ten minute speed prose assignment. The imagery of cars was still fresh in my mind, and I took a smiliar path with a different outcomes.

I'm not sure if its a good as the last one, this feels quite confessional, more conversational. I'm still eager for impressions and improvements.

Drama

Welcome to Westgate House. Let me introduce Henry Eddowes, 77, a man with so many regrets and so little time...

Part One (4800words approx)

extract:
'Moths tapped at the glass, frantic to get in out of the night, as Henry stood in his pyjamas and looked past them through the window at the kennel, a slow-drifting ark afloat in the moon-spill. They weren’t the only things afraid of the dark, the moths and him, for outside, atop two mighty paws protruding from the kennel, a large head with eyes that bore tiny moons gazed warily at the night like some sleepless seasick passenger on the bow of a rolling ship. Those eyes belonged to one who watched the world’s slow-drift toward dawn, observed the stars in their game of hide-and-seek with the clouds, with only an occasional blustery sigh for comment.'

This was written as a two-part 'balanced' story but I had no luck in selling it as such. The second part (And Take) was accepted by an American webzine under a new title. I've seen similar examples throughout Africa to those written here; they're not uncommon. Contains language and terms some may find offensive.
